Very formal, but also cheerful for Christmas

A little bit more colour and it is more cheerful!

Red and Green 37, 38 from Virtual Quilter

December has arrived, and so a lot of the virtual quilts I share will have a red, white and green theme until new year … or some of them will. I will share some non-red, white and green as well.

I love the red, white and green combination for Christmas decorations, probably because that is what I grew up with, though there was always some tinsel to add a touch of sparkle.

Love the second design, especially those low contrast blocks.

Red and Green 35, 36 from Virtual Quilter

At long last my home decor is starting to turn red and green, with touches of gold, as trees, swags and wall hangings are escaping from storage.

Love the second design … mainly because there is room for quilting to shine around the applique blocks.

Well-Loved Ladies QAL: Fabric Selection from Nestlings By Robin

FABRICS!
Isn't this why we
really do this quilting thing??
So, let's talk fabrics!
This pic shows the fabrics I chose to work with.

The pattern supply list will give overall yardage.
Example: Red- # yards

I chose to use a 10" layer
 cake of red prints.
The red value is consistent throughout
with different prints. There were 42
squares in this pack from
 Wilmington Prints
and I used most of them.

For my greens, I pulled 6 that were
anywhere from a FQ to a yard.

When you are doing the QAL with us,
there is no reason ...

Well-Loved Ladies QAL: Introduction from Nestlings By Robin

www.nestlingsbyrobin.com
I started collecting these
Centenarian Sweethearts
pretty soon after I began
studying to become a
certified quilt appraiser.

The applique' artist in me
was completely fascinated by
this era of women creating
their own designs too.

I have assembled a collection of quilts
that are not in the greatest shape but still
so beautiful in their history and imperfections.

This quilt along has been
well over a year in the making.
Once the Well-Loved Ladies lecture
was finished and being presented
to guilds, requests for a pattern
started and I knew a sampler
of the different quilts from
the lecture ...

Monday Making from Love Laugh Quilt

It's been a BUSY week here!!

I visited my small quilt at the road to California
Quilt show.
:)

Added LOTS of half square triangles to my
Hospital sketches quilt!

After that....
I made plans for Graduation quilt SEWING DAY!
To be held next month.

Everyone who comes will make the 16 patch block.

If you SEW, then you know that not ALL the 16 patches will be EQUAL.
:)
Especially since many who come don't sew very often.

I thought by adding the corner triangles
I will be able to get them ALL uniform in size.
And no one ...

Red and Green 33, 34 from Virtual Quilter

A project for next Christmas perhaps … possibly a bit late for this year.

I think I like the first one today.

WINTERBERRIES from Nestlings By Robin

This block design is so versatile and I knew that I wanted it in Christmas colors so I started pulling shades of green and red and throwing them on the floor so I could think on them.

Isn't this a sweet little print?!
It gives so many colors to play with.

Let the chain piecing begin and be
mindful of those 1/4" alignments.

Here is a picture of a test block so you can
see it in another colorway ...very sweet!
The more important part of this picture is showing the alignment
of the triangles ...

Little Hourglass Quilt from Repro Quilt Lover

Last post, I laid out goals and a plan for getting more projects to the completion stage.  Now is when I should probably report back on those but, ahem, I’m not ready.  Okay, I’ll be honest because both the goals and the plan accomplished what I hoped they would which was sticking to the same projects long enough to make progress on all three.

quilt blocks in a tray
Three projects…contained by a box and by a plan.
  • Pink Sprinkles: I finished all the squares. That is if you call finishing 105 of 120 all the squares. I am, because the remaining ...

applique wreath from quiltsalott

I haven't done any applique for the best part of a year and was having withdrawal symptoms so pulled out a block to prep. This is block number 10 from the Beyond The Cherry Trees quilt. The pieces you can see in the photo are now ready for sewing down onto the background fabric.

I had to think about how to tackle the circular wreath in the middle and decided to use the starch and iron method of preparing the applique pieces.
I cut the paper circle from two thick layers of freezer paper and ironed it to the ...
